Veterinary physiotherapy involves the assessment and treatment of movement difficulties, pain, and recovery following injuries or surgery. Practitioners use techniques such as massage, passive joint mobilisation, stretching, and therapeutic exercise to improve mobility and reduce discomfort. This approach is commonly recommended for dogs and cats with osteoarthritis, following orthopaedic procedures, or when managing neuromuscular conditions. Owners can expect an initial detailed assessment of their pet, an individualised treatment plan with progressive exercises, and guidance on home-based rehabilitation routines. Therapists should hold a recognised veterinary or specialist qualification in animal rehabilitation. Sessions may take place in a clinic or, in some cases, in the home environment.
