Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a procedure in which an animal breathes pure oxygen inside a pressurised chamber at atmospheric pressure levels above normal. The elevated pressure allows oxygen to dissolve more deeply into tissues and cells, accelerating wound healing, reducing swelling, and supporting recovery after surgery or injury. Common indications include carbon monoxide poisoning, ischaemic tissue damage, severe infections, and neurological conditions. Each session typically lasts between 45 and 90 minutes; the animal rests inside a transparent chamber and usually acclimatises quickly. A full course of treatment involves multiple sessions, the number of which is determined by the diagnosis and the animal's clinical response.
