Kinesiology taping
Kinesiology taping involves applying a stretchy, self-adhesive cotton tape to the skin of the animal. By gently lifting the skin, the tape improves lymphatic and blood flow while reducing pressure on pain receptors in the underlying tissue. In dogs and cats it is used after surgery, for muscle or joint injuries, in rehabilitation following orthopaedic procedures, and as support for chronic pain conditions. The therapist cleans and dries the area, cuts the tape into the appropriate shape, and applies it along anatomical lines. The procedure is painless. The tape typically stays in place for two to five days and is well tolerated by most animals.
