Shockwave therapy (ESWT)
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive treatment that delivers high-energy acoustic pulses into targeted tissue. In dogs and cats it is most commonly used to manage pain from osteoarthritis, treat tendinopathies, stimulate healing in chronic wounds, and address musculoskeletal conditions. The pulses increase local blood flow, promote cellular regeneration, and reduce inflammation. General anaesthesia is usually not required, though some animals need mild sedation to remain still during treatment. Owners should expect a course of several short sessions spaced at regular intervals. A thorough clinical assessment is performed before starting, as ESWT is not appropriate for every condition.
